The share of Icelandic fishing company HB Grandi held by Kristján Loftsson (also Hvalur hf’s owner) and Halldór Teitsson has been sold to Guðmundur Kristjánsson, owner of Brim. This places 34.1% of HB Grandi’s ownership into new hands.
Kristján Loftsson’s and Halldór Teitsson’s ownership of the HB Grandi shares has been via companies Vogun hf and Fiskiveiðahlutafélagið Venus hf. Halldór Teitsson’s ownership of HB Grandi drops to zero, while Kristján Loftsson retains a shareholding in the company.
According to Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið, Kristján Loftsson commented that the purchaser made a good offer, which was accepted once the boards of the relevant companies had decided in favour.
Brim has a month’s grace to make the ISK 21.70 billion payment for the HB Grandi shares, around €175 million.
