All holders of commercial fishing licences and commercial fishing vessel licences issued by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources (DFMR) are now under notice to renew their licences for another year. The fees for the commercial fisher and fishing vessel licences (per year) are as follows:
Commercial Fisher’s Licence – EC$ 50.00; Commercial Fishing Vessel Licence (less than 60 ft) – EC$ 250.00; Commercial Fishing Vessel Licence (more than 60ft) – EC$ 500.00.
DFMR has appealed all commercial fishers and commercial fishing vessel owners to cooperate and extend their support in this matter. The department said that by the end of January 2012 all commercial fishers and commercial fishing boat owners will be in possession of a valid licence issued by the Department. If anyone failed to renew the licence and not in compliance with the law are being charged and taken before the Magistrate. All are being reminded that ‘any person who uses a vessel for fishing, including commercial fishing or sport fishing, unless that vessel is licensed for that purpose, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to hefty fine.
