Aker Seafoods has got more environmental labeled saithe as an additional six of its processing plants are certified with the label for producing environmental MSC-labelled saithe products. It is said that Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has verified the plants and guarantees that Norwegian saithe are sustainable and legally harvested.
According to the source Norwegian North Sea and Arctic saithe was certified as sustainable by MSC last June. The week after, Aker Seafoods’ first processing plant received Chain of Custody certification and thereby Aker Seafoods could offer its customers environmental labeled saithe shortly after the Norwegian saithe fishery was labeled as sustainable. With this Aker Seafoods have a total of seven certified processing plants and can meet a larger share of demand for MSC products.
It is fact that environmental responsibilty, traceability and sustainable fisheries are major concerns amongst our European customers. When the Norwegian saithe fishery was certified sustainable, then there is an increase in the demand for environmental labeled saithe products. The company are excited that another six of our plants are certified for producing saithe products with the MSC label, so that it can meet the customers’ demand.
Aker Seafoods’ EVP sales and marketing, Morten Hyldborg Jensen told that enviromental considerations represent a key element in Aker Seafoods’ marketing strategy and active efforts are being made to have Norwegian Arctic cod and haddock MSC-certified.
