HB Grandi now has around 9200 tonnes of its Atlanto-Scandian herring quota left, of which 3400 tonnes can be taken in Norwegian waters and 3100 tonnes can be held over to next year if necessary.
The remaining herring quota has been dropping rapidly recently, in spite of difficult weather that has hampered fishing. Yesterday Lundey NS landed 1400 tonnes at Vopnafjördur and Faxi RE and Ingunn AK are both steaming to land at the same port.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson of the company’s pelagic division, Faxi has 800 tonnes on board and is due in at midnight, while Ingunn has 1300 tonnes in her tanks and is expected in Vopnafjördur in the morning.
With a large area of low pressure east of Iceland, storms are expected between Iceland and Norway for the next two days. Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson says that Faxi and Ingunn are already steaming through storm-force weather conditions, and both steamed westwards when they left the fishing grounds yesterday morning to be able to be able to complete the trip with the weather astern of them.
He says that Ingunn and Lundey are scheduled to begin fishing for herring in Norwegian waters next, while Faxi will be targeting Icelandic summer-spawning herring in home waters.
