The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), today announced the 2009 Snow Crab Management plan for fishing areas 12, 18, 25 and 26 in the Southern Gulf of the St. Lawrence.
Following consultations with industry stakeholders, the total allowable catch (TAC) for the four areas remains at 20,900 tonnes.
“We have consulted with the licence holders in these areas and they are aware of the issues associated with this TAC level,” said Minister Shea. “Fishers have assumed the risks and understand that an adjustment will be made next year if required.”
