Karstensens Skibsværft in Denmark has delivered its newbuild #439, a 51.90 metre LOA by 11.20 metre beam pelagic vessel for owners in Ireland.
The new Western Chieftain has been built for Donegal owner Frank Doherty and the new vessel was named at a ceremony at the yard in Skagen.
Western Chieftain has an MAK main engine powering a 3800mm diameter Caterpillar Propulsion propeller.
Built to a design developed by Katstensens Skibsværft, Western Chieftain was delivered by the Nauta yard in Poland as a partially outfitted hull, and completed at the yard in Skagen.
The new vessel replaces the older 45 metre Western Chieftain which was built at Karstensen in 2005, and the latest newbuild is the fifth in a series of pelagic vessels from the yard for Frank Doherty since 1997.
