Vónin was involved early in the aquaculture business, drawing on its long background in many types of fishing gears, as fish farming grew rapidly in the Faroese fjords, and it wasn’t long before Vónin’s expertise was in demand across the rest of the Nordic region and in the UK. With a strong reputation for the quality and security of aquaculture installations, Vónin has now established an alliance with Crosby Europe, which also has a long track record in producing high-quality hardware designed to withstand the rigours of heavy use in the fishing industry.
‘We were looking for our own range of hardware,’ said Signar Poulsen, manager of Vónin’s aquaculture division. ‘So we went to Crosby Europe to see if they could come up with what we were looking for. While we have been in the aquaculture business for a long time, this is a new market for them and they were immediately interested in working with us on this as they have a very important footprint in the fishing industry with their Crosby Trawlex brand – and it’s exciting for Vónin as the Crosby Trawlex range is such a well-known name.’
The result is a new aquaculture range product line of steel fittings and equipment, named the Crosby Trawlex Aquaculture range, that Vónin is now launching exclusively in the NorthSea/Atlantic region, developed for its cage mooring systems that are in widespread use in the Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Scotland.
‘This range of equipment includes shackles, chain, connector plates, masterlinks and more. There are standard items that Crosby Trawlex already had ready in its products range, but there is also new equipment here, such as the new mooring shackles that have been designed specifically for these applications, new T-bolts and more,’ said Rob Van Put, Regional Director at Crosby Europe.
‘We’re confident that the world-famous Crosby red pin shackle with its proven track record has a great future among this comprehensive new range of Crosby Trawlex aquaculture mooring products,’ said YYY Ashley Hall, Crosby Europe’s Trawlex specialist,at Crosby Trawlex, commenting that the company’s special steels and heat treatments are the key to having been able to develop super strength capabilities in its products, while the heat treatment is also behind ensuring that ductility is retained and the effects of stress is reduced, which provides outstanding resistance to wear and corrosion in the marine environment.
‘We are certain that all these qualities will lead to savings for users as the strength and durability of these mooring system components lead to lower operating costs,’ Rob Van Put added.
‘We have looked at the challenges users face and have incorporated innovations to make handling easier for them; such as the unique fin on the TXMS mooring shackle, which allows one person to assemble the shackle’s nut and bolt without any difficulty.’
‘There are real advantages to using this ultra high-quality equipment, such as being able to drop down from 25mm to 19mm Profile Chain (the chain with the fish) while maintaining the same strength,’ Vónin’s Signar Poulsen commented.
‘All the certification that the aquaculture industry requires for this is in place for this new range of hardware. So we’re excited about being able to supply even higher quality equipment than ever to our aquaculture industry clients.’
