The latest statistics of Vietnam Customs revealed that in September, 2010, Vietnam exported 27 thousand tons of shrimp, worth US$249 million, up 15.8 percent in volume and 34.1 percent in value over the same month last year. Out of which black tiger shrimp export reached 17.5 thousand tons, worth over US$186 million, up 32 percent in volume and 56 percent in value; whiteleg shrimp (vanamei): 6.4 thousand tons, valued at US$43 million, up 15 percent and 34 percent, respectively.
The data shows that in the first 9 months of 2010, Vietnamese shrimp exports have reached 167 thousand tons, valued at US$1.42 billion, up 14 percent in volume and 22 percent in value over the same period last year. Of which, black tiger shrimp export has reached 97 thousand tons, valued at $969 million, up nearly 50 percent in volume and 64 percent in value; vannamei: 43.7 thousand tons, worth US$283.5 million, up 43 percent and 58 percent, respectively.
Shrimp top the list of Vietnamese export seafood products, accounted for 40.7 percent. In the first 9 months of 2010, Vietnam exported shrimp products to 89 markets worldwide. Japan ranked the first with US$313 million, up 18.3 percent over the same period last year, accounting for nearly 29 percent of the value of Vietnamese shrimp exports, followed by the U.S. with US$376 million, up nearly 30 percent over the same period last year.
