Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam revealed that the turnover of seafood export in the first half of the current financial year reached USD 1.7 billion, with earning USD 320 million in June. It is said that the turnover has decreased more than 11 percent against the same period last year. As forecasted, pangasius export turnover may reach USD 1.3 billion in 2009, exceed the target USD 1.0 billion set from beginning of year.
It is informed that among seafood import markets, EU is still the leading importer with USD 357 million, accounts for 26 percent, follow next by Japan market. Regarding the structure of export products, pangasius is leading with the control of this product in EU and American market, shrimp rank second with the main market is Japan.
Recently the demand of pangasius products in Russian market is quite big and diversified. As forecasted, exports of this item in can reach USD 1.3 billion in 2009, exceeding the target set from beginning of year. Besides, volume of some products with high value such as tuna decreased strongly due to the fishing ban of China, tuna catching volume was less than 18,300 tons, down 17.5 percent in volume and 23 percent in value.
