Dutch yard Luyt, based in Den Oever, reports that it has orders for two new stern trawlers, with an option for two more.

The two trawlers measure 25.50 metres with a 7.50 metre beam and have been ordered by Johnny de Boer of Marisa Fisheries in Surinam, in co-operation wth Dutch partners companies Tel in IJmuiden and Jaczon in Scheveningen. There is an option for two more vessels, all of which is part of the expansion of the expansion of Marisa Fisheries.

The two new trawlers are to be delivered over the coming year and will be used for stern trawling in Surinam waters. The boats are to be fitted out for tropical conditions.

According to Luyt Groep, building two, or maybe four, trawlers as a series is something new, although the Luyt yard and Marisa Fisheries are far from being strangers. The yard has already completed several successful conversions of older vessels, Minerva and Milton, for Marisa Fisheries.

‘This is a very welcome order for Luyt and it provides a boost for Den Oever and the region surrounding it,’ a yard spokesman said, commenting that Luyt works as much as possible with local suppliers.
