It was January 9 when the fishery officers from the Tusket detachment of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans boarded the lobster fishing vessel Matthew and Kelley I for inspection. They found an illegal catch of 24 lobsters with eggs attached and one mutilated/v-notched lobster.
The officers charged Matthew James Amirault, 26, of Lower East Pubnico with possession of lobster with eggs attached, possession of lobster from which eggs have been washed or removed, and possession of lobster with egg cement or glue attached on its swimmerets. Amirault’s trial is scheduled on February 4. He is facing charges for two separate incidents of fishing in an unauthorized area during 2007 lobster fishing season.
On December 27, fishery officers from the Tusket detachment boarded the fishing vessel Relentless 04 for inspection and found 24 mutilated/v-notched lobsters and nine egg-bearing lobsters. They charged Mark MacKenzie, 24, of Argyle, the owner of the boat, with possession of lobster with eggs attached, possession of mutilated/v-notched lobster and obstructing a fishery officer in duties. MacKenzie is scheduled tot appear before court on February 26.
