At the 10th National Tuna Congress, Senator Edgardo Angara called on the local tuna fishing sector to modernize its fleet and improve management systems to become more globally competitive. He also encouraged the tuna industry to avail itself of the Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) through the Department of Agriculture as a strategy to cushion the impact of high fuel costs among its membership. The two-day congress, with the theme "Managing Our Tuna Resource: Exploring Opportunities and Alternatives," was organized by the SOCSKARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. and supported by City Government of General Santos, the First Congressional District of South Cotabato, the Department of Agriculture and USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program
