Norwegian fishing company Trønderbas AS has taken delivery of its new pelagic vessel from Westcon. It replaces a vessel built at the same yard 25 years ago.
Designed to operate on the Norwegian fleet’s usual pelagic fisheries – trawling for blue whiting and with opportunities to fish for herring and mackerel with either trawl or purse seine gear, the new Trønderbas measures 74 metres overall with a 16-metre beam and a 2815 cubic metre capacity in its RSW tanks. Accommodation on board is for a crew of up to 15.

The steelwork was completed at the Norse Shipyard in Turkey and the hull was brought to the Westcon yard in Olensvåg for outfitting.
The relationship between the Westcon yard and the Ulsund family, owners of the fishing company, goes back to 1977 when the then-Trønderbas was fitted with a shelterdeck. This was followed in 1999 with the delivery from Westcon of the Trønderbas now replaced by the new vessel.
‘We are happy with the Ulsund family’s confidence in us, and the good cooperation during the construction period, and we wish the company, ship and crew good luck with another vessel from Westcon,’ a yard representative commented as the new pelagic vessel was handed over.
The deck is laid out with a complete set of Entec Evotec MultiSoft electric winches.
Trønderbas has a sophisticated energy system centred around a Wärtsilä 8V31 main engine, offering opportunities for diesel-mechanical and diesel-electric operation – and a 1243kW battery pack is part of the package, serving to optimise energy utilisation.
