NFFO President and Selsey fisherman Tony Delahunty has been appointed to the Board of the Marine Management Organisation.
His appointment runs from 1st February 2017 until 31st January 2020, covering a vital period for the future of the UK fishing industry, as this will see both the implementation of the landing obligation and the design and application of a post-Brexit management regime.
His wide experience as NFFO Chairman and then President, Chairman of the Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority and Chairman of the NFFO’s South East Committee, as well as an active skipper of an under-10 metre vessel, will be central to the role.
According to an NFFO statement, there are many important issues affecting the fishing industry such as the implementation of the landing obligation, the operation of the VMS and electronic log books, quota management and the operation of the EMFF. Tony Delahunty’s calm and informed presence on the MMO Board should help to steer the body in positive directions.
