A unique training opportunity is being offered by the Fishing Into the Future charity with a workshop being held near Aberdeen in June for fishermen seeking to get the best out of their businesses.
The Business of Fishing Workshop is a unique initiative, designed to provide working fishermen with new insights into both the structure of the industry and opportunities that are available to improve fishing as a business.
Fishing into the Future is looking for fishermen from around the coasts of Scotland and its Islands to take part. Expenses are paid and there is even a small gratuity as part of attending the three-day course.
According to Fishing Into the Future, the course has been built by Scottish fishermen, their representatives, scientists, fisheries managers and others to really get to grips with key questions;
I see plenty of fish on the ground – how are fishing quotas decided?
How can I trust fisheries science when they use the wrong gear and fish in the wrong place?
I want to make good money – how can I build a strong business?
I want to shape the future of my fishery – can you help me get involved?
What’s in it for me?
‘We believe this course will become a regular feature for years to come,’ commented Fishing Into the Future’s spokesman.
‘So, whatever sector you work in, wherever you are based around Scotland, get ahead of the game and apply now. Lead the way and help shape the fisheries science and management training of the future.’
‘The course has been built with the help of fishermen: it will meet your needs by complementing your current knowledge while providing you with practical opportunities to go deep ‘under the bonnet’ of fisheries science and management.’
The course is held 12-14th June at the Thainstone House Hotel near Aberdeen, 15 minutes from Aberdeen Airport.
Registration closes on 12th May and places are going fast. Find out more here, and grab your opportunity now by applying here.
