Under Canada’s Economic Action Plan Coat Guard ship Tanu will receive good investment. Andrew Saxton, Member of Parliament for North Vancouver, announced on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that Allied Shipbuilders Ltd. has been awarded a $5.9 million contract to complete major repairs to the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Tanu.
According to Saxton Canada’s Economic Action Plan is creating jobs and opportunities in communities right across the country. He said that the government is pleased to make such a big investment in this major vessel repair project which is benefiting North Vancouver and Canada’s vibrant shipbuilding industry. The vessel life extension project for the CCGS Tanu includes work on the hull and safety and security equipment, an overhaul of the propulsion machinery, replacement of the ship service generator, upgrades to the electrical systems and deck equipment, as well as the installation of a bow thruster.
Saxton also said that this investment will help ensure that the Coast Guard has the equipment it needs to keep our waters safe, accessible and secure. He told that the repairs will keep Tanu in service for years to come.
