Síldarvinnslan’s factory at Neskaupstaður in eastern Iceland has this summer been processing Greenland halibut and redfish for the Asian market, with the emphasis in Greenland halibut since production began in April.
Icelandic company Vinnslustöðin’s netter has returned to the Westmann Isands after a successful season fishing off the east of Iceland.
Westmann Islands netter Kap II has been fishing well this summer, having caught 300 tonnes of Greenland halibut since the beginning of July on grounds off the east of Iceland.
All of HB Grandi’s factory vessels are now fishing deep north-west of the Westfjords along with five other trawlers, searching for elusive Greenland halibut on fishing grounds off the edge of the Hali area.
‘We’re well off the north coast about 40 nautical miles north-west of Kolbeinsey. We’ve been in this area for a couple of days looking for Greenland halibut, but unfortunately fishing has been slow,’ said Trausti Egilsson, skipper of HB Grandi’s freezer trawler Örfirisey RE-4 when we spoke to him earlier today.
