Scottish fishermen will be joining the drive to promote the consumption of locally caught seafood at The Taste of Edinburgh Festival that begins tomorrow (29 May).
With the export market for seafood affected by the recession, the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation is participating in the three-day Festival – part of an initiative by Seafood Scotland and the Scottish Government to help promote the home consumption of Scottish seafood.
The event aims to highlight to the Scottish public the huge diversity of quality seafood that is found around our shores.
Among those participating will be Federation president Ian Gatt, who will be taking part in a cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Nick Nairn using freshly caught Scottish langoustines.
Mr Gatt said: “The SFF welcomes the support that is being given to the Taste of Edinburgh Festival by Seafood Scotland and the Scottish Government. There is a wonderful variety of seafood sustainably harvested from our waters and this Festival will provide a marvellous showcase of the sea’s bounty.
“Seafood tastes great and is the ultimate health food. We are looking forward to showing visitors to the Festival – both locals and tourists – the huge range of seafood available and its versatility in the kitchen.”
The Taste of Edinburgh Festival is taking place at Inverleith Park, Edinburgh from May 29-31.
