Shetland Fishermen’s Association has recruited a new policy officer to join its team in promoting the interests of the industry.
Sheila Keith joins from Shetland Islands Council where she has spent almost 15 years providing commercial lending to private businesses in the islands.
‘We are delighted to welcome Sheila to the Association. She brings great knowledge and understanding of the industry locally, having managed investments in the fish catching sector during her time at the SIC,’ SFA executive officer Simon Collins said.
Sheila Keith has also represented the SIC in a range of fisheries roles, including inshore fisheries management, European funding and quota management.
‘I am very much looking forward to working with the SFA and its members at this exciting yet uncertain time,’ she said.
‘The industry is facing numerous challenges but I believe that it is strong and well placed to have a bright, sustainable future. My role will be to work with fishermen to develop policies which achieve this.’
