Seafish has started the most comprehensive single database for the global seafood industry, the Seafood Information Network (SIN). The SIN is available is online at Seafish website. SIN Manager, Richard Watson, explained that the SIN provides a user-friendly tool for the seafood industry to find relevant information from one source. According to him SIN gives the industry a perfect platform to showcase their own products and services in a global market place.
Watson also told that the SIN is multi-functional and offers our industry partners a vast array of capabilities, including a seafood industry search engine, user specific news updates, an events calendar, equipment guides, a bulletin board and desktop web conferencing facilities.
John Rutherford, Chief Executive at Seafish, informed that the Seafood Information Network is part of Seafish’s renewed focus on listening to the needs of the industry partners and taking action. He added that the consultation with industry revealed a requirement for a one-stop, easy-to-use comprehensive database of information about seafood, and that is what SIN delivers.
According to Rutherford the Seafish team set its focus on better representation for seafood industry, the launch of SIN forms an important part of the next stage in the development of Seafish as the voice of the UK seafood industry. Grimur Valdimarsson, Director of Fish Products and Industry at FAO said that the new initiative has already received an endorsement from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). He added that finding unbiased and authoritative information relating to safety, quality, nutrition, as well as environmental profiles is becoming ever more difficult. FAO will follow this industry initiative with great interest.
