The training was delivered by the Process Excellence Service team from Seafish, which has its Humberside regional office in Grimsby. Delegates from the Fraserburgh, Livingston, and Grimsby sites across a range of roles and levels of the business attended the training sessions in Grimsby.
The Lean Sigma programme gives companies the tools and techniques required to accurately identify and progress areas for improvement and provides a framework and statistical tools to create rapid transformation. Lean Sigma Yellow Belt training provides an introduction to process improvement and the basic tools of Lean Sigma. The role of a yellow belt is operational as a team member assisting with project delivery. The training is across two days and at the end of the course delegates should be familiar and confident with the key tools and techniques of Lean Sigma and be able to implement them within their organization’s day to day activities.
Tam Muldoon, managing director at The Seafood Company, said: “The Yellow belt training has proved very popular with our staff and is an important foundation which we believe will deliver significant benefits in the future.”
Three employees have completed improvement projects as part of their training to Lean Sigma “yellow belt” standard, and were the first employees to receive their yellow belt certificates on October 7.
Gillian MacLeod, Process Excellence Adviser at Seafish, commented: “Yellow belt training was a long-term goal for the Process Excellence Service and we’re thrilled to have reached this level far more quickly than we had anticipated. This demonstrates the significance and relevance of this type of training for seafood businesses in the current economic climate.”
