Russia has indicated an intention to to review agreements with Iceland and Norway in such a way that it receives quotas for fishing in the Icelandic exclusive economic zone.
According to Interfax, the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) has stated that this concerns the 16th session of the joint Russia-Iceland commission on fisheries, which took place in Moscow.
‘Russia expressed interest in the provision of access to the exclusive economic zone of Iceland for fishing of capelin, mackerel, herring and other types of maritime bio-resources holding interests for Russian fishing,’ the Rosrybolovstvo statement said.
Rosrybolovstvo said that Iceland was given quotas for cod and incidental by-catches in the Russian Barents Sea economic zone for this year. This was done as part of an intergovernmental agreement between Russia, Iceland and Norway and also on the decision of the 45th session of the joint Russia-Norway commission on fisheries.
