It is difficult to trust any party for its big decisions and right choices as far as the sea life is concern. The protection of UK seas for the next five years is the main issue this election in the country. Experts believe that the next parliament will be critical for the protection of our seas, so voters who love the seas should question prospective MP’s on their views.
According to MCS the next government should do three things – protect 30 percent of UK seas from all damaging activities in Marine Protected Areas; push for radical reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and take action on marine litter starting with a Marine Litter Action Plan. MCS asked the main parties for their views and commitments on key marine issues.
Melissa Moore, MCS Senior Policy Officer, said that “MP’s should be aware that there is enormous public support for marine conservation. In a two week period the Co-operative Group survey of customers found over 527,000 supported Marine Reserves. Shoppers have also been voting with their feet for more sustainable fish. she also said that it is important to make the next five years count for the future of our seas and coastal life – you can start to make those changes now by ensuring the MP and party you choose on May 6th is marine aware.
