Statistics Iceland releases now a new issue of Statistical Series in the topical category of fishing and fish processing. This issue presents the profitability of the fishing industry as well as their balance sheets in 2005 and 2006.
These statistics show the profits of the main sub-sectors of these activities such as boats in several size categories, pelagic boats, wet fish trawlers, freezing trawlers, processing of demersal species like freezing and salting, processing of capelin and fresh fish processing.
According to the aggregated balance sheet, the net worth of the fishing industry was 97 billion ISK in the end of 2006 and had decreased by 8% from 2005. The total asset was 387 billion ISK in the end of 2006 and the total liabilities 290 billion ISK, and had increased by 9% and 16% from 2005, respectively. This can be compared with 16% increase in net worth between 2005 and 2004.
