According to report seafood export from Vietnam has risen in volume and value, up 8.3 and 28.2 percent, respectively on those of the previous year, reaching 177 thousand MT, worth US$692 million. The larger growth in value than that in volume showed the increasing trend in average export price to markets.
According to Vietnamese Customs, in the first two months of 2011, tuna export has grown 10.4 in volume and 19 percent in value, respectively over the same period of 2010. The U.S and Japan still were Vietnam’s important tuna importers with stable export value growth since 2010. In the first two months of 2011, the combined export value to the two markets accounted for 69 percent of the total tuna export value in which the U.S imported over 5 thousand MT.
Vietnamese seafood tuna export value to EU, Canada, Israel has kept stable growth of 15.6 to 54.5 percent. Besides, tuna export value to Spain and Lebanon also reached 3 digit growth of 157.6 and 132.6 percent, respectively. However, tuna export to Taiwan and Croatia dropped both in volume and value in which export to Taiwan reduced 71.8 and 60.6 percent and that to Croatia declined 47.6 and 46.1 percent over the same period last year.
In February 2011 alone, compared to previous month, Vietnamese tuna export to most of markets declined both in volume and value, achieving 4,465 MT and US$23.5 million and reducing 19.4 percent in volume and 16.5 percent in value over the same period last year. Tuna export to EU markets rose sharply 41.4 percent in volume and 37.6 percent in value, particularly, export to Spain recorded the most impressive growth with 117.8 percent in volume and 104.6 percent in value. In February, there are more Vietnamese tuna exporters to EU over January 2011 which shows that EU markets is becoming more attractive to some Vietnamese enterprises.
