The Nodosa Shipyard at Marín has signed a contract with the Perscuerta Group to build a new freezer stern trawler to fish in the South Atlantic – ready for the spring 2021 season.
The 75 metre overall freezer trawler will have a 14 metre beam and has been designed by Nodosa’s engineering department, working in close co-operation with Pescapuerta’s tecnhical teams.
‘They have worked to customise every detail of the design to meet the most demanding requirements of operating in the South Atlantic, meeting the customer’s needs and complying with every requirement to meet the regulations,’ said Nodosa’s José Ramón Regueira.
Named Falcon, the new trawler will weigh in at just under 2000gt, and in keeping with the designs developed by Nodosa in recent years, Falcon will feature sophisticated technology in terms of energy efficiency, catch handling and environmental aspects of its operation, as well as which the owner has placed a strong emphasis on crew comfort and safety.
‘This is the fourth large freezer trawler specially designed for operating in the south Atlantic that Nodosa has signed in the last four years, as well as the specialised freezer longliner CFL Hunter which was delivered in 2017 for Falkland islands owners,’ José Ramón Reguira said.
‘Nodosa has become the go-to shipyard for this sector of the fleet, and its position has been strengthened with accumulated expertise and experience after dealing with government authorities, classification societies, crews and ship owners.’
Falcon’s delivery is scheduled for the end of the year 2020, ready for the first fishing season of 2021.
