Good news on Atlantic Cod and Haddock!

Scientists in Russia, Norway and Iceland are reporting that cod and haddock stocks have grown significantly in the North Atlantic. It comes as a surprise to many that less than 5% of the UK’s supply of Atlantic cod is coming from UK’s coastal waters of the North Sea. The majority is actually being supplied from Russian, Norwegian and Icelandic waters of the North Atlantic.

Fisheries scientists seek economic data on Southeast Alaska fisheries

What is the contribution of fishing and seafood processing to the Southeast Alaska economy? Scientists at NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center are seeking improved data on that topic by asking a small number of Southeast Alaska fishermen and processors to voluntarily participate in the Southeast Alaska Fisheries Economic Activity Survey.

Slow fishing on pearlside

There are six pelagic vessels now searching for pearlside in the Grindavík Deeps and according to Ingunn AK’s skipper Gudlaugur Jónsson, there isn’t much happening there. Ingunn began fishing last Saturday and catches have been from 100 to 200 tonnes per day.
