Mediterranean and Canary fishermen demand quota justice

The Association in Defence of Mediterranean Artisanal Fisheries (ADPAM), the Regional Federation of Canary Island Fishing Cofradias, the Gaia Oceans Association, the Tarragona Fishing Cofradia and the Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) met in Tarragona last weekend to agree on the next steps of their campaign, following the Castellón meeting that took place in May. They affirmed that they will now focus on getting their voices heard in Madrid, to call for the injustices of recent years to be ended.

Successful Holland Fisheries Event

Last week saw the seventh Holland Fisheries Event in Urk opened by Secretary of State for Agriculture Martijn van Dam and Urk’s mayor Pieter an Maaren on Friday morning and close the following day after close to 3500 visitors from Holland other countries had visited. The date for the 8th Holland Fisheries Event has been set for the 5th and 6th of October 2018.

Baltic demersal fishermen dealt huge blow by EU

Demersal fishing in the Baltic Sea has been dealt a huge blow by the Council of Ministers on Monday night when they reached agreement on fishing opportunities for 2017 in the Baltic. The ministers ended up agreeing on a quota reduction of no less than 56% for cod in the Western Baltic Sea, while the quota for cod in the Eastern Baltic Sea was reduced by 25%.
