EU fisheries fund to meet the industry’s needs

The Fisheries Committee of the European Parliament has voted on the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) that will cover the budgetary period 2021-2027. Europêche has voiced its appreciation of the strong stand the Parliament has taken in the light of the 5% budgetary cut proposed by the European Commission to compensate for the upcoming Brexit gap in the EU budget.

MSC certificate remains suspended for Gulf of St. Lawrence snow crab fishery

The MSC certificate for the Gulf of St. Lawrence (GOSL) snow crab trap fishery in Canada remains 'suspended' following an audit by certifier SAI Global (SAIG). The annual surveillance audit included a full review of the fishery’s performance against the MSC Fisheries Standard as well as progress of the corrective action plan implemented following the suspension of the certificate on March 20 last year.
