Official figure shows that the volume of groundfish exports in August totalled 27,100 tonnes, an increase of 3,440 tonnes compared to the same month last year. Norwegian Cod accounts for much of this increase. The Norwegian Seafood Export Council states that in August, exports of Norwegian Cod totalled total 9,860 tonnes, up by 2,920 tonnes compared to August last year. This year to date, exports of Norwegian Cod have increased by 7,620 tonnes compared to the same period last year, although in the same period the price has fallen by an average of 23 per cent.
Market analyst Ove Johansen from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, said that with the fall in the price of Norwegian Cod, we are seeing strong growth in demand for products such as fresh whole Norwegian Cod in Denmark and France, and for clipfish in Portugal.
It is mentioned that the exports of salted Norwegian Cod in August totalled NOK 54.8 million, up by NOK 22.5 million from August last year. Exports of Norwegian Cod clipfish in August declined in total by NOK 13.4 million compared to the same month last year to end at NOK 127.6 million.
Exports of stockfish in August showed a decline in value of NOK 34 million compared to the same month last year. It is told that in August, exports of fresh whole Norwegian Cod totalled NOK 24.7 million, an increase of 46 per cent on the same month last year. The volume of exports stood at 912 tonnes, no less than 69 per cent up on August last year. The Council informs that August exports of frozen whole Norwegian Cod, Norwegian Saithe and haddock were up by NOK 31 million from August last year to a total of NOK 95.6 million. Exports of Norwegian Cod and Norwegian Saithe each increased by NOK 6 million to NOK 32.2 and NOK 33.3 million respectively.
