The seas of Norway’s fishing industry have dried up still further on news that the EU has banned Norwegian fishermen from fishing mackerel in EU territorial waters. News last week revealed some 30 Norwegian vessels being turned away by EU Coast Guard. Norway’s authorities claim that this action is a breach of a bilateral agreement between the EU and Norway. The Norwegian fishing industry, one of the world’s largest, stands to lose something on the order of $175 million annually if the banning stays in place.
