Scottish seafood and the fishing industry will be featured during today’s North Atlantic Seafood Forum in Oslo.
Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard Lochhead will use his attendance to highlight the excellent seafood and fishing industry available in in Scotland.
Mr Lochhead said:
“Scotland has a marine resource of unparalleled beauty and richness. We produce some of the best seafood on the planet and there is world-wide demand for it because of its superb quality.
“But we are serious too about conserving our precious resources. I am proud that Scotland’s fishing industry has led the way in Europe on fish stock conservation. We are continually pursuing and promoting sustainable fishing.
“I am convinced our Conservation Credits Scheme will make a tangible contribution to help drive down mortality and discard levels of our key stocks.
“Sustainability and conserving our marine heritage is not at odds with the production of top quality produce – it’s quite the opposite. The steps the Scottish fishing industry is taking now will help safeguard our world renound seafood produce for years to come.”
Mr Lochhead is attending the third North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) in Oslo. It is attended by the major players in the seafood sector in Northern Europe. No other UK Minister is attending.
Mr Lochhead will undertake a series of meetings and will speak twice at the NASF.
