Nikimu Fish farming project is an innovative project run by a local fish farmer who has an aim of mobilizing, organizing and serving small-holder fish farmers in Budaka district located in eastern Uganda to boost up the fish farming while achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
It is told that Nikimu Fish farming project has designed a community-based sustainability project that will provide the tools and resources needed by youth, women, and other interested local people to fight poverty and improve on the livelihood and health, to feed themselves, their families, and their communities.
This local project of Uganda needs international backing as the total project budget is $19,805.88. Therefore, it needs the support with $14,935.29 as the local farmers support the project with $4,870.59. It is told that the fish farmers will in addition contribute land, part of manual labor and time in planning and management of the project.
According to the information the project is to take two years and it has two fish ponds that been rehabilitated and ready to be stocked, favored by rainy season. The most immediate problems are restocking (7000000 Ug.Shs) and fencing (1200000 Ug.Shs) as we always experience poachers and some wild animals such as monitor lizards.
Nikimu Fish farming project is desperately seeking logistical, financial and advisory support the immediate problems that started cropping up and thus hinders the project.
