Riga Shipyard in Latvia has been building ships since 1913, and since the company was restructured in 1997, it has delivered more than 150 vessels to the European market. Its latest was completed in September, with a trawler for owners in Ireland to be finished at the Vestværft yard at Hvide Sande in Denmark.
The new Alannah Riley measures 28.35 metres overall with a 9 metre beam. It is a Vestværft design and is scheduled for delivery in the spring of next year to its owners at Skibbereen in Ireland where it will fish for langoustine that are frozen on board.
Riga Shipyard constructed the steel hull, the aft gantry and the aluminium wheelhouse. 35 tonnes of ballast were placed in the hull and rudder, propeller, main engine and exhaust system are all in place. The winches and net drums were also mounted in Riga, with pipework and insulation fitted before the vessel left Riga for Hvide Sande.
Vestværft’s role is to complete Alannah Riley’s accommodation and equipment outfitting alongside at Hvide Sande, which involves a number of local contractors including Vest-El and AS Scan.
