Le Havre fisherman Mickaël Devarieux has taken delivery of a new trawler designed to alternate scalloping and bottom trawling, his third boat and his first newbuild.
The steel-hulled Ma Désirade was built at the Chantiers Glehen yard in Douarnenez. It measures 11.98 metres overall, with a 6 metre beam and a depth of 2.43 metres.
The boat has three winches and it is powered by a 243kW Baudouin 6M26 main engine that provides ample power for twin-rigging for sole as well as for the boat’s main task of dredging for scallops with a crew of four.
Mickaël Devarieux expects to concentrate on scalloping during the eight-month season in the Seine Bay and Ma Désirade is fitted with a 2000kg vivier capacity as well as its 15 cubic metre fishroom, for keeping catches alive and in peak condition, with much of the catch supplied direct to buyers.
He commented that it wasn’t just price that brought him to Chantiers Glehen for his newbuild, as his previous boat, P’tit Yao, was also a Glehen boat, built in 1972, which served him well until it was time to upgrade to something new.
