The last time Ivan Ulsund Rederi took delivery of a new vessel was 25 years ago. Now the Norse Shipyard in Turkey has launched the new Salt-designed Trønderbas.
Ivan Ulsund Rederi’s newbuild will be delivered from the same yard as in 1999, as the new Trønderbas will soon be on its way to Norway for outfitting at Westcon.
The 73.30-metre, 16-metre breadth new vessel is to be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that includes a 1243kWh battery (Corvus) and, like older vessel, it’s a combined pelagic trawler/purse seiner.
The design is from Salt Ship Design. Norse Shipyard near Istanbul is part-owned by Westcon, and serves as their dedicated hull fabricator. Among other projects, Norse has also constructed the hull of the innovative Ecofive, being built for Bluewild.
The present Trønderbas had been listed for sale, although it is uncertain whether a buyer has been found of if the owners have decided to retain the vessel due to delays in the newbuild’s delivery.
Ivan Ulsund Rederi also operates Brusøyskjær, a 45-metre coastal vessel. This vessel was built in 2004 as Girl Stephanie for owners in Ireland, and modernised at Karstensen in 2018 before coming to Norway for its current owners.
