A new twin-rigger/fly-shooter for Urk owners Rense and Johannes de Boer is scheduled for delivery in March 2019 from the Maaskant yard in Stellendam.
The new Meindert Senior LT-60 will replace the family’s current beam trawler LT-60, and they also run the Noorderhaaks UK-195. The de Boer family is a longstanding Maaskant customer.
Meindert Senior is designed by Vripack, and is similar to but slightly smaller than the Spes Nova UK-205 which is currently under construction, also for owners in Urk.
Construction starts at the Safe Yard in Poland before Meindert Senior’s hull is to be brought to Stellendam for fitting out. The new UK-registered trawler’s planned measurements are 31 metre overall with a 9.40 metre beam and capacity for 1300 boxes in the fishroom, and it is to be built according to the MCA standards and those of the selected classification society.
The electrically-powered deck equipment for trawling and fly-shooting has already been ordered from VCU in Urk. It will be fitted with a pair of Caterpillar C18 gensets and an ABC 6DZC main engine driving a 3400mm fixed-pitch propeller via a Reintjes WGF1563 gearbox.
The current 40 metre LT-60 is expected to be flagged to the Netherlands when its replacement is ready. It was built at Maaskant in 1991 for Lowestoft company Colne Shipping as the St Matthew before being sold to its current owners when Colne left the fishing industry.
