As per the press communiqué of the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, New Zealand, the ministry has recently approved the National Fisheries Plans for Deepwater and Highly Migratory Species (HMS). The fisheries plans will be used to guide prioritisation and planning of fisheries services for these fisheries.
The release said that the Minister is also required to take these plans into account before he sets or varies relevant sustainability measures, or makes decisions or recommendations under the Fisheries Act relating to deepwater and HMS fisheries, respectively.
In his speech the Minister thanked all the people involved in the plans development processes. In addition to the National Plans, which have been approved by the Minister, fishery specific chapters for hoki and orange roughy have been completed.
