According to the company its board had unanimously elected George E. SyCip, who has served as an independent director of the firm, chairman at a special meeting yesterday. SyCip replaced Suriya Lapsivutisin, who resigned on Feb.23, citing his inability to attend board meetings. The company told that SyCip would continue serving as an independent director, which he has held since 2005, until June 15, when Alliance Tuna holds its regular election of officers and board members.
Alliance Tuna President and CEO Jonathan Y. Dee expressed that the company did not expect to change direction with SyCip as chairman, but was looking forward to his insights on international business. He added that the company expects the new chairman to have a deeper understanding of international business given his strong international exposure.
It is informed that SyCip is president of Halanna Management Corp., a project development and investment company. He is also a founder and principal at Galaxaco China Group LLC and advises companies on their cross-border endeavors between the US/Europe and Asia. Alliance Tuna is engaged in tuna processing and canning in General Santos City in Mindanao.
