A new beam trawler is a rarity, and a new beamer for the UK fleet is even more of a rarity – but Waterdance is about to take delivery of the first new beam trawler for an English owner for more than twenty years.
Georgina of Ladram BM-100 is currently in the final stages of outfitting and sea trials at the Luyt yard in Den Oever, where skipper Trevor Sclater and his crew are getting to know the new trawler.
Waterdance and Luyt go back a long way, as the yard has carried out repairs, maintenance and refits on a number of the company’s trawlers, and also delivered new crabber Nichola of Ladram last year.
The 35.25 metre LOA, 8.70 metre moulded breadth Georgina of Ladram is a Luyt design, with the hull constructed at Ibis in Holland and brought to Den Oever for completion.
The main engine is a 736kw ABC 6 DZS driving a ZF W10230 gearbox with a 7.524:1 ratio, turning a 3200mm diameter propeller inside a nozzle designed by SC McAllister & Co.
Auxiliary engines are a 335kW Mitsubishi S6B3-MPTAW with a 495kVa generator and 49ekW CAT C4.4 harbour set. Tank capacities are for 46 cubic metres of fuel, one cubic metre of lube oil and 23 cubic metres of fresh water.
AS Scan supplied the MT2500 steering gear and the bow thruster is a 110kW Beta 150E unit.
As well as the design, construction and its role as the main contractor, Luyt also delivered the BT-E10-2-HA190-0H fishing winch. This pneumatically-controlled ten-drum winch has consists of two main trawl drums, two derrick topping drums, two safety drums and four gilsons, and it has a 160kW power input.
De Boer RVS and Luyt supplied the catch handling installation on board, and Polar Koeltechniek fitted the chiller system and icemakers.
Echomaster Marine provided Georgina of Ladram’s electronics.
