Investigators from South Korea are in the Seychelles to look into the deaths of the skipper and chief engineer of a South Korean longliner.
According to the Seychelles News Agency, the Kwang Hyun 803 docked in Port Victoria last week with the two bodies on board and a remaining crew of 16, made up of Korean, Indonesian and Vietnamese nationalities. The two officers are thought to have been murdered on the 19th of June when the vessel was not in Seychelles waters.
The investigation is being carried out by the South Korean Coast Guard team with co-operation from the Seychelles police.
A police spokesman commented that formalities are being dealt with to repatriate the bodies of the skipper and chief engineer, and two Vietnamese suspects have been arrested. The two are reported to have been drunk when the murders took place, although the exact circumstances remain unclear. They are now being held on board the Kwang Hyun 803 under the supervision of the Seychelles police as they are reported to be co-operating with investigators. No other crew members have bene harmed.
