People from the Faroe Marine Research Institute made a research trip with Finnur Fríði to see how big the Mackerel stock is in Faroese waters.
The research showed that the Mackerel stock in the Faroese waters is much larger this year than the last two years especially north of the Islands. The trawl used for the trip was the Multpelt 832mtr from Vónin. The trawling was made at the surface where the Mackerel usually is this time of year. The researchers could also see that the quantities of Herring was larger this year than last year.
This research is made together with Iceland and Norway to see the quantities and spreading of the Mackerel stock in the summer when it is in the northern oceans to find food.
The results will be discussed at a meeting between the participating countries in August, and will be made public after the meeting in a joint rapport .
