An appeal has been launched following the loss of the crabber Louisa off the Western Isles at the weekend in which three crewmen lost their lives and one was rescued after swimming for the shore.
Staff from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are in Stornoway to look into the circumstances of the Louisa’s sinking, and it is though the crabber had been at anchor off Mingulay when it took on water. The alarm was raised when the boat’s EPIRB was activated at 0345 on Saturday. The single survivor was rescued from rocks by the Barra Lifeboat, which also retrieved two bodies from the water. One remains missing.
