New fishing vessels Far East company Russian Crab are on the way to St Petersburg for outfitting. The semi-outfitted hulls have been built at inland shipyards, and this means there’s a journey via rivers and lakes to their destination.
Vivier crabber Kapitan Firsov is being tugged from the Onega Shipyard, across Lake Onega and via the Svir and Lagoda rivers and to the Neva to St Petersburg.
There’s a more complex process for processor crabber Kapitan Skovpen, which is being transported in a floating dock to ensure sufficient draft in shallow waters. This means towage along the Oka and Volga rivers, then via the Volga-Baltic Canal to Lake Onega, to pick up the same route as its partner vessel.
These 57.70-metre, 12.60-metre breadth crabbers are part of a series of new vessels for Russian Crab, built under the first stage of the government investment quotas scheme.
