As per the press communiqué ministers of fisheries and aquaculture from Canada’s eastern provinces and the federal government today applauded the creation of the Lobster Council of Canada, a marketing and promotional body for Atlantic Canada’s signature seafood. The Honourable Gail Shea, federal Minister of Fisheries and Oceans informed that Canada’s lobster industry produces some of the world’s finest and most sustainable seafood.
She also said that the Lobster Council of Canada will play a crucial role in ensuring that this message is heard loud and clear. She further explained that developing a strong and recognizable brand for our lobster is a key component for the economic prosperity of this important Canadian fishery.
The main role of the Lobster Council of Canada is to maintain and develop market access for Atlantic lobster and supporting innovation in product development. The Government of Canada is working closely with the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec and key stakeholders on a strategy for the long-term sustainability of the lobster industry.
The Honourable Neil LeClair, PEI Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development opined that on behalf of all Eastern Canadian Fisheries Ministers, I am pleased that industry has recognized the need to establish the Council. Collaboration and co-operation with all lobster industry sectors is the key to ensuring the sustainability of the resource and success of the Canadian Lobster Industry.
