Fresh and crucial talks which are aimed at settling the ongoing mackerel quotas wrangle which is infuriating Scottish fishermen, are set to get underway on Oslo today.

A third round of talks between the EU, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, with the aim of securing a new international agreement on mackerel fishing quotas, starts in Norway tomorrow. Scottish Government officials are taking part in the negotiations.

All selections of whitefish continued to meet good interest although the increase quantities of fish available resulted in prices easing a little. As a result the first three selections of gutted haddock sold at £97-£131 per 57kg box, medium £80-£103 per 57kg box, and small £57-£68 per 57kg box at Peterhead Fish Market Scotland’s premier fishing port.

Five twin-rig fishing trawlers from Scotland- the Lead Us FR 938, Lindisfarne INS 51, Coromandel KY 27, Suilven IV BCK 366 and Shekinah 111 FR 34 left Fraserburgh Harbour in the North East of Scotland last week for the last time to steam to Ghent in Belgium where they will be dismantled and broken up by Van Heyghen Recycling.
