Fisheries and Oceans Canada Investigation Results in Convictions for Destruction of Fish Habitat
Her Majesty the Queen in right of Alberta, as represented by Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, (Government of Alberta) and Wilco Landscape Contractors Ltd., (Wilco) (collectively “the defendants”) were penalized a combined total of $95,000 after pleading guilty in Calgary provincial court for violating subsection 35(1) of the federal Fisheries Act for “the harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat”. The offence occurred along the shoreline of Elbow River, Allen Bill Day Use Area.
