The Kingfisher Information Services department have been supplying fishermen with valuable seabed information for over 40 years. In recent times, Kingfisher have moved away from the production of paper fishing charts and now concentrate on providing accurate awareness information of offshore surface and subsea structures to fishermen.
The information displayed on the charts Kingfisher produce includes Oil & Gas surface and subsea obstructions, (pipelines, platforms, wellheads, pipeline spans, etc) and Submarine Telecommunications Cable data (submarine cables, repeaters, final splices, etc). These charts can either be received in paper or electronic format, and are compatible with the majority of fishing plotters, including Sodena Turbowin, Maxsea, Penta +, TRAX, Transas Navifish 3000, Litton Fishmaster, TMPlanner/Quodfish, SIS Microplot and Winfish systems.
The Submarine Telecommunications Cable information is produced in cooperation with the UK Cable Protection Committee (UKCPC), with the charts covering the surrounding waters of the UK. Kingfisher are also in the early stages of a joint project with the Danish Cable Protection Committee (DKCPC), to produce fishing plotter disks for the Skagerrak, Kattegat and Baltic Sea areas. It is hoped this information, containing all telecommunications and power cables running through Danish waters, will be available for fishermen in the next 12 months.
Kingfisher recently attended the Danfish 2007 fishing exhibition in Aalborg and shared their stand with representatives from the DKCPC.
“This was the third time we have exhibited at Danfish and again there was great interest in our disks and charts. It was notable how many fishermen asked for plotter disks for the Kattegat and Baltic – working with the DKCPC, we are now hoping to have this information available for fishermen within a year.” said Neil Murray, Kingfisher Manager.
All the information Kingfisher supply is free of charge to fishermen and is widely available from Kingfisher’s website, www.seafishmarineservices.com fishing plotter files can be downloaded or ordered for posting to your home address.
Updated information of offshore activity is also available in the form of the Fortnightly Bulletin. This newsletter provides essential information of current and up-and-coming Oil & Gas, Telecommunications and other offshore activities. It is available to receive in paper, via email or download from the Kingfisher website.
