Samherji’s new factory stern trawler, the first of a series of four, is due to dock in Akureyri today and the ship will be open to visitors this afternoon.
Kaldbakur is the first of four new factory stern trawlers for Icelandic owners built at the Cemre shipyard at Yalova in Turkey to an innovative new design that includes a wave-piercing bow. As the series is delivered, the four new vessels will replace older tonnage, some of which has been in service since the 1970s.
Kaldbakur is built for Samherji and the subsequent trawlers in the series are Björgúlfur and Björg for Samherji subsidiary Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa and Drangey for Fisk Seafood in Sauðárkrókur.
