Scott Armstrong, Member of Parliament for Cumberland Colchester, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), informed that the government of Canada is willing to fund $1.2 million for Canaqua Seafoods Ltd. through DFO’s Aquaculture Innovation and Market Access Program (AIMAP). This funding will support a project to optimize land-based tank farming of Atlantic Halibut.
Minister Shea said that the government is committed to enhancing the global competitiveness, productivity and environmental performance of Canada’s aquaculture industry. She added that the $1.2 million investment will go towards a project with commercial applications that will continue to make the Canadian Aquaculture industry the thriving industry Canadians can be proud of.
AIMAP funding helps recipients plan, manage and complete aquaculture projects to enhance the productivity, economic viability, environmental performance and potential of the Canadian aquaculture industry. MP Armstrong is of a view that the government supports the development of a vibrant and sustainable Canadian aquaculture industry that contributes to the economies of rural and coastal communities. He told that Canaqua Seafoods Ltd.’s Atlantic Halibut operation demonstrates how the aquaculture industry is diversifying and heading in exciting new directions.
